I don't know whether your computer already has a wireless receiver. What type of pc is it that you are using? You can check by going into the device manager and checking whether or not a wireless device is listed under network adapters because otherwise you will have to use a wired connection to the router or by a wireless device.

If you bought a wireless router, then you will need a wireless receiver .... or an add on device card to be placed into a PCMIA device slot on your laptop to run your laptop. You will need a wireless receiver in your desktop too or any computer you try to run off that router or a card that is compatible with your installed router. Some newer computers come with it installed.

If you bought a wired router, you will need an ethernet cable or usb cable, depending on the router setup, to go between your modem and your router and from the router to the computers that you are trying to run off that router. So for two computers you would need 3 cables,....one from the modem to the router input connection and one from each of the computers to the router outputs.

Do you have an Internet provider? IF your laptop is newer it will likely have wireless capabilities built in, you can check that by going into your computer and checking the types of network adapters you have. If it's an older one you may have to by a card to work with your router. Once you have that figured out it could be a configuration issue with the router ( PPOE setting or something). Best thing to do would be to call your internet provider, the can walk you through setting up internet access through a router.

Check the specifications of your laptop in your guide/handbook/manual, or look in the device manager, (start >Control Panel >Classic View >System >Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and look under network adapters. I had trouble with my wireless internet as well, but that was because my stupid router wouldnt "Talk" to the modem (Stupid piece of ....)
